DHI vs FUE Hair Transplants: Which One is Right for You?

DHI vs FUE Which is the right one for you

Over the last few decades, thousands of international patients a year have chosen Turkey as the site of their hair transplant due to Turkey’s reputation as a global leader in medical tourism. Thanks in part to the large number of best-in-class medical professionals, low operating costs, and cutting edge medical facilities, patients travel to Turkey for all manner of medical procedures.

What Treatments Are Available?

For patients who are suffering from long-term hair loss that has progressed beyond Norwood Stage 3 and/or has been stable for at least three years, the only permanent solution is a hair transplant. Generally, the most widely-used and effective types of hair transplant surgery are FUE and DHI.

FUE Hair Transplants

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is perhaps the most popular technique used for hair transplants. When using the FUE technique, a patient’s own healthy hair follicles are first removed from a donor area (typically on the back or sides of the head) either as individual grafts or multiple follicles. These extracted hair follicles are then briefly stored in a special nutrient-rich solution while all of the hair grafts are prepared. These are finally implanted into channels created in the recipient area. Dr Serkan Aygin Clinic has pioneered the use of sapphire blades during FUE method transplants, thus allowing for the creation of finer channels, denser hair graft placement, and faster healing. Sapphire FUE transplants are minimally invasive procedures that feature a rapid recovery time and a minimal risk of scarring.

FUE hair transplants are well-established as a highly effective solution for reversing hair loss for a vast majority of patients and have greatly increased in popularity over the last several years. Like any medical technology, recent advancements in the field of hair transplantation have led to several increased benefits. Forget about the days of cheap-looking hair plugs; thanks to the introduction of sapphire blades, patients can expect a much fuller, more natural final result.

What are the benefits of Sapphire FUE?

The single biggest advantage of sapphire blades over conventional steel is that they are significantly sharper; this offers several notable advantages.

For starters, sharper blades allow for much finer incisions, which in turn means your surgeon can create more channels. This, in turn, leads to more transplanted hair grafts and a denser, more natural final hair transplant before and after result. Finer incisions also significantly reduce the risk and amount of bleeding both during and following the procedure. Additionally, transplanted hair follicles placed into smaller channels are far less likely to shift or fall during the healing process.

A final advantage of using sapphire blades is that they allow for a much faster and cleaner healing process. Sapphire blades cause less damage to the surrounding tissue than steel ones and minimise the risk of scabs allowing for faster healing, minimal risk of infection, and little to no scarring.

DHI Hair Transplants

Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) is one of the most recent transplant techniques used for hair restoration. It is a modified version of the FUE technique that combines extraction and implantation into a single step. During a DHI hair transplant, a patient’s hair follicles are first extracted from the donor area and then directly implanted into the recipient area without the need for incisions. This is done with the aid of a Choi implanter pen and allows for more accurate placement of hair follicles and a more natural final result.

What are the benefits of DHI?

  • The amount of time that hair grafts spend outside of the body is largely reduced. This allows for a higher survival rate of the transplanted hair follicles.
  • Noticeably lower risk of bleeding at the transplant site.
  • Reduced trauma on the hair follicles during the procedure, leading to a healthier final result.
  • With a shorter postoperative recovery, patients can resume normal activities sooner than other hair restoration treatments.
  • The recipient site does not need to be shaved before the operation making DHI the perfect choice for patients with longer hair.
