DHI Hair Transplant In Turkey

What are the advantages of the DHI method in hair transplantats?

Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) is the newest transplantation technique available for hair restoration treatment. It is a modified version of the FUE hair transplantation technique which combines extraction and implantation into a single process. During DHI, hair follicles are first extracted from the donor area before being directly embedded into the recipient area without the need for incisions. This is achieved by the use of a Choi implanter pen and provides multiple benefits such as a greater hair follicle survival rate and a significantly reduced risk of bleeding/scarring.

How Is A DHI Transplant Done?

As with any other hair transplantation technique, the first step is a full, comprehensive consultation. During this free consultation, the specifics of the transplant will be agreed upon by both doctor and patient. These include the number of grafts required, the coverage of the recipient site, the location of the donor area, and more.

Once a full course of treatment has been agreed upon, the actual procedure can begin. The first step is to shave the donor area – this area is typically located on the back of the head and is carefully chosen so as to be hidden by the remaining hair (note that a DHI hair transplant can be performed without the need for shaving).

The donor area should be nearly invisible after the procedure. Once this has been done the extraction and implantation process can begin. Prior to extraction, both the donor and recipient areas are anaesthetised using “soft” needleless anaesthesia. General sedation is also an option for most patients. All sedation and anaesthetisation procedures are fully optional.

Technicians then carefully extract the hair follicles (grafts) from the donor area and immediately insert them into the Choi implanter pen before handing the pen to the surgeon. The grafts are then inserted directly into the recipient area one-by-one, the pen is removed, and the next graft is implanted.

During the DHI procedure, there are typically 2-6 Choi implanter pens and 14-16 needles being handled between the surgeons and their assistants. Throughout the procedure, great care is taken to implant the hair follicles at 40-45° to match the natural angle and direction of hair growth and provide a full, natural result.

What Are The Advantages Of DHI Hair Transplantation?

The benefits of DHI hair transplantation include:

– The amount of time the grafts spend outside of the body is greatly reduced, allowing for greater survival rates of transplanted hair follicles.

– Significantly lower risk of bleeding at the recipient site.

– The grafts experience reduced trauma during the procedure, leading to healthier final results.

– Faster recovery from the procedure, the patient can resume normal activities sooner than other hair restoration treatments.

– The recipient site does not require shaving prior to operation making DHI the perfect choice for patients with longer hair.

Does DHI Hair Transplantation Have Any Disadvantages?

DHI does provide several benefits over other hair restoration treatments with only minimal drawbacks; most notably, it is more expensive than other treatment options. The largest of these is the cost. DHI hair transplantation is more expensive than transplants using the FUE technique. This is due to both the specialised equipment required, as well as the extensive additional training surgeons and technicians must undergo prior to performing procedures with the technique.

While more expensive than a traditional FUE hair transplant, DHI hair transplants in Turkey are still significantly cheaper than similar procedures in many other nations.

Additionally, whereas a full FUE hair transplant of approximately 3,000 grafts takes roughly 6 hours, a DHI transplant of the same volume takes over 10 hours to complete.

Who Is DHI Hair Transplantation Right For?

When the Choi Implanter Pen was first introduced by Kyungpook National University in Korea, it was discovered that patients with straight, thick hair saw the best results whereas patients with thinner or curlier hair often experienced greatly diminished returns.

Over the past decade, however, great advancements have been made within the hair transplantation field. Through increased training and advanced methods, surgeons can now use DHI hair transplantation on virtually any patient.

Results of DHI Hair Transplantation

DHI allows for full, natural final results. Since patients do not need to shave the recipient area should they not want to, there is little to no discernable difference in the postoperative look of the patient while the new hair grows in. During the first few days after the operation, it is normal to experience a degree of “shock loss” where the implanted hair may fall out. This is a normal part of the recovery process.

Over the next several months the hair will continue to grow naturally and will begin to seamlessly blend with the existing hair creating a fully natural final result. A final advantage of DHI hair transplantation is that the patient may resume normal activities such as swimming or going in direct sunlight more quickly than with a traditional FUE hair transplant.
