Coconut Oil Spray for Hair

Coconut Oil Spray for Hair

Coconuts are great. You’ve probably heard about people using coconut oil for cooking, or as a skin moisturiser. But coconut oil can also be beneficial for your hair. While a lot of people may be sceptical about adding more oil to their hair, the long-term benefits are more than worth it.

What Benefits Does Coconut Oil Have for Hair?

Coconut oil can provide several benefits for your hair.

  • It protects your hair from damage

Coconut oil contains lauric acid which helps to strengthen your hair’s protein structure and prevents the cuticle from getting damaged. This can help to prevent split ends and breakage.

  • It conditions your hair

The lauric acid in coconut oil is easily absorbed deep into your hair and carries moisture and nutrients with it, helping to cure dry damaged hair.

  • It has anti-bacterial properties

Coconut oil is great at fighting off things like dandruff, viral or fungal infections, and even lice.

How Do I Apply Coconut Oil to My Hair?

There are multiple ways that you can incorporate coconut oil into your hair care routine. Be sure that you’re using the right kind of coconut oil, Palmer coconut oil and virgin coconut oil are some of the best options.

  • Use coconut oil before shampooing

Applying coconut oil to your hair before showering can limit the amount of water that your hair absorbs. Absorbing too much water can lead to hair damage and breakage. Coconut oil also forms a barrier against shampoos. While regular shampooing is good for your hair, some can strip the natural oils that your hair and scalp need to stay healthy.

  • Use coconut oil as a conditioner

Simply mix a little coconut oil into your conditioner. Coconut oil can help lock in the hydrating ingredients in your conditioner. Be careful not to overdo it, though. Applying too much coconut oil to your hair can make it difficult to rinse out and can cause clogged pores, resulting in irritation and dryness.

  • Make a coconut oil hair mask

Start by melting some coconut oil in a frying pan and let it cool until just above room temperature. It should be warm, but not hot. Next, get your hair slightly wet and apply the coconut oil evenly throughout. Put on a shower cap and leave it for about 2 hours. To remove, simply wash it out of your hair with shampoo. Remember to be thorough, as leaving it in for too long can lead to clogged pores.

No matter how you use coconut oil, it’s important to remember that you need to remove it thoroughly from your hair. It may be necessary to shampoo your hair twice after an application.

How Often Should I Use Coconut Oil on My Hair?

It’s safe to use coconut oil on your hair two to three times a week. For very fine hair, once a week may be enough, whereas thicker or curlier hair may benefit from the third session. Always start with a small amount to figure out how your scalp reacts to coconut oil. Using it too frequently, too heavily, or leaving it in for too long can cause scalp dryness, itchiness, and could lead to clogged pores.
