Hair transplant sweating

Sweating will have negative effects on the healing and results of a hair transplant. A hair transplant is the only permanent, effective solution for replacing your lost hair. So, there are several things to keep in mind before undergoing the procedure to ensure that you are able to achieve the best possible results. There are a few vitally important things to remember to ensure that your scalp and hair heal fully, naturally, and safely following your procedure.

Why is Sweating Harmful?

Sweating can increase the risk of new hair grafts developing an infection. Any infection at the transplanted area will have extremely negative results on the final result. We advise patients to avoid sweating by staying out of direct sunlight and avoiding exercise for 14 days.

The skin on the scalp is extremely thin, meaning that sweating here is likely to have adverse effects on newly implanted hair follicles. Even a small amount of physical exertion can result in sweating. It is important to try and keep your heart rate low and avoid any physical stress.

Following The Hair Transplant

  • Avoid activities that lead to heavy sweating, as sweating may increase the risk of infections at the recipient site.
  • Avoid steam baths or saunas for at least one month after the procedure.
  • Avoid exposure to direct sunlight for up to 3 months following your procedure.
  • Avoid touching or rubbing the grafted scalp. Picking or rubbing the area can cause new implants to fall out before they have a chance to take hold.
  • Do not consume alcohol for five days after the.
  • Avoid smoking for a month after the procedure as it stops the flow of blood to the transplanted grafts.
  • Do not engage in any form of sport or exercise after the procedure for a few weeks.

Avoid Sun Exposure

For at least 3 months following the surgery, it is important that you protect your head from the sun. This will help to prevent sweating on the scalp as sweating can cause bacteria that can cause infection. Further, sweating can cause discomfort, tempting you to rub or dry your scalp.

Exposure to sunlight is also likely to prolong the time needed for the head to fully heal following the operation. To avoid sunburn, you should wear a hat whenever you leave the house. A loose-fitting hat like a fisherman’s hat or a Panama is a good choice as they do not rest directly on the scalp. Avoid using sunscreen as it requires you to rub the area.

When Can I Start Sweating Normally After A Hair Transplant?

  • After 1 week, you may resume light exercise.
  • After 2 weeks, you may resume heavy exercise.
  • After 1 month, you may resume playing contact sports.
  • After 3 months, you may resume a full, normal activity routine.
