How high can the Hair transplant success rate be?

Hair transplant success rate

Hair transplants restore hair growth to areas of the scalp where a patient has thin hair or stopped growing entirely. While there are many potential causes of hair loss, hair transplants can provide solutions for an overwhelming majority of patients. When considering a hair transplant procedure, it’s important to understand what kind of results are typical. A successful hair transplant is one where the patient is satisfied with the results.

How are Hair Transplants Done?

There are two types of hair transplants that are offered: Sapphire FUE and DHI. Broadly speaking, they both follow the same overall process. A patient’s healthy hair follicles are extracted from a donor site (typically the back of the scalp) and are then implanted to cover the areas left behind by hair loss.

Sapphire FUE

Follicular unit extraction is perhaps the most commonly-performed hair transplant method. During an FUE transplant, the surgeon will extract healthy hair grafts from a donor site and store them in a nutrient-rich solution. Once the required number of grafts have been extracted, the surgeon creates a series of microscopic channels in the scalp into which the grafts are inserted.

Dr Serkan Aygin has pioneered the use of sapphire blades during this procedure. The use of sapphire blades as opposed to conventional steel allows for finer incisions leading to more grafts, reduced risk of scarring, and faster recovery times.

DHI

Direct hair implantation is a slightly modified version of the FUE method. The major difference is that during a DHI hair transplant, the extracted donor hair is implanted directly into the recipient area after being extracted with the help of a special Choi implanter pen. This leads to more accurate placement of the grafts giving a more natural-looking final result.

What is the Success Rate of a Hair Transplant?

When performed and maintained properly, hair transplant surgeries can be nearly 100% successful. Dr Aygin has achieved an astounding 98% hair regrowth rate over his illustrious career. While the surgeon’s skill is the most important factor, there are many things that may affect the success of a hair transplant, before, during, and after the procedure.

What Affects the Success of a Hair Transplant?

The single most important factor in a hair transplant’s success is the skill of the surgeon operating. Dr Serkan Aygin has more than 25 years of experience and has assisted more than 15,000 men and women from around the world.

In addition to the skill of the doctor, the medical facilities and equipment used also play a key role in success. Our clinic is located in one of Istanbul’s most prestigious hospitals and utilizes only the most modern medical equipment.

Lastly, the patient’s behavior and ability to stick to the prescribed aftercare are vital to the long-term health and success of any hair transplant.

What Should be Avoided After a Hair Transplant?

Following any hair transplant procedure, several things need to be avoided. Most importantly, do not touch, rub, or scratch the transplant area under any circumstance. The newly-implanted grafts are still loose immediately after the procedure and touching or rubbing the area is likely to cause the grafts to fall out.

For 15 days after the procedure, it is advised to avoid any strenuous activity. Activities including sport, sexual intercourse, hard work, or even vigorously blowing your nose could cause grafts to loosen and fall. It’s also generally advised that you keep your head elevated as much as possible during this time to avoid blood pooling in the scalp.

Lastly, it is necessary to avoid direct sunlight, seawater, or pool water during the healing process. Showering is allowed, but avoid direct water pressure on your scalp.

How Can I Get the Best Results from a Hair Transplant?

Getting the best hair transplant before and after results comes down to picking the right clinic. The Dr Serkan Aygin Clinic is a world leader in hair restoration and in 2019 was named the “Best Medical Tourism Facility” by La Razon. That same year, Dr Aygin himself was honored by the European Medical Wards for his work in the field of “Hair Restoration”.
